The Gall Bladder is an organ on the right side of the abdomen and is located below the liver. It stores the digestive juice(bile) secreted by your liver, which is released into the small intestine to help break down fats. Gallstones are solid deposits formed in the gall bladder and the condition is medically known as cholelithiasis. These occur in a range of sizes and can be single or multiple in number.

🔹There is no specific diet for treating symptoms of gallstones. However, eating a healthy balanced diet that is naturally low in fat may help to reduce symptoms.
🔹If you are overweight losing weight will be beneficial. However, it is important to do this gradually as rapid weight loss has been associated with the development of galstones.
🔹 A safe weight loss of 0.5- 1 kg/ week is recommended
A HEALTHY BALANCED DIET CONSIST OF
▪️Eat smaller but frequent meals.🤏
▪️Consume easy-to-digest light meals.
▪️ Plenty of fruits and vegetables.🍇🥦🥗
▪️ Make sure your diet is high in fibre. This can be found in beans, pulses, fruits and vegetables, oats, whole grains
▪️Bulk out meals with vegetables and pulses
▪️Choose low fat diary products🥛
▪️Limited amount of food high in fats and sugars
▪️ Limit saturated fat that is found in animal products such as butter, ghee, cheese, meat, cakes, biscuits, pasteries
▪️Replace these with unsaturated fats found in vegetable oils, such as sunflower, rapseed and olive oil, avicados, nuts and seeds
▪️Drink plenty of fluid, atleast 2litres daily
▪️Vitamin C, Magnesium and Folate can help reduce the risk of gall bladder diseases and improve your gall bladder health. Some sources high in Vitamin C are:-Citrus fruits like lemons oranges and grapefruits🍊🍇Vegetables like broccoli and red and green peppers🥦🥬🥒🌽Other fruits like kiwis and strawberries, guava, passion fruit, gooseberries🥝🍓🍒
▪️Try to avoid processed food🧀🥯🍟🍔
▪️Check labels for high fat products▪️ Measure your oil when cooking
▪️A good measure is about 1 teaspoon per person
▪️Remove all visible fat and skin from meat
▪️Avoid caffeine, spicy food and anything that might upset your digestive system.
